Almost 18

Almost 18? Congratulations.

You are currently still insured under your parents’ insurance. Your coverage will remain unchanged.

However, there are a few things you need to arrange for your medical expenses insurance.

Would you like your parents to continue managing your file through the app or the portal?

Your consent

If you're 18, we don't assume that your parents can just keep managing the medical information linked to your insurance. Of course, they can—and it's often the easiest option. But your parents will need to add you again in the app to do so.

We'll unlink your profile in the app

When you turn 18, your profile will be disconnected from your parents' app. Your parents will no longer have access; they will no longer be able to view your file or see your cards.

How do you solve this?

Once you give your approval, they can ask again to manage your file.

- Go to the "More" menu in the app.

- Select "Family Members." This list shows all affiliated family members.

- They click on your name > Add a family member.

- We'll send you a registration code so they can manage your profile again.

Would you like to be able to manage your own insurance?

Download the app

You can also use the app yourself. Download the app, create an account via itsme or your email and link your policy.

Create an account through itsme.

Create an account via email.

Parents and child have access to the app

If your parents have also added you again in the app, both of you will have access to your information, and both of you will be able to declare a hospitalisation and / or costs (depending on the coverage).

1 email address, 1 account number

We can only use one email address and one bank account number per person. Be sure to discuss with your parents which email address and bank account number we can use in your file.

Are you using your own email address? If so, be sure to keep track of communications regarding declarations and costs. Are you making other arrangements? You can always change your email address or account number via the menu more - family members.

Any communication regarding premiums is always directed to the primary insured.

So when will your insurance stop?

This isn't related to turning 18. But when is it, then?

Your insurance coverage ends, for example, when you turn 25, if you change your place of residence, when you start working, or if you are no longer eligible for child benefits. This depends on the terms of your policy. Ask for them here.

What are the options at that point?

- You may be able to affiliate in your employer's insurance plan once you start working.

- Lost your insurance coverage and were you insured with Vanbreda for at least 2 years? Request a individual continuation.

Attestation of affiliation

Do you need an attestation of affiliation from Vanbreda to arrange another insurance policy? Request it via here.

Ready for your next adventure?

Whether you're studying, working, or moving out on your own: make sure your insurance is there to support you along the way.

We wish you the best of luck!
