Outpatient

Ambulatory care

Do you have medical costs outside of a hospital stay? Those are outpatient expenses. Examples include visits to your doctor or specialist, or prescription medicines you buy at the pharmacy. These types of costs don’t appear on your hospital bill, but they are often still covered by your insurance.

3 types of outpatient costs

There are three types of outpatient expenses you can submit for reimbursement through your Vanbreda insurance. Here’s a handy overview.

Costs related to your hospital stay

These are costs outside your hospital admission that are linked to your hospitalisation, such as consultations, tests or scans before or after your stay. You can easily submit these pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses via the app.

General outpatient costs

With a supplementary outpatient plan, you can get part of your everyday medical costs reimbursed, such as doctor’s visits, medication, prescription glasses or dental care. You'll find the exact cover for your costs in your policy terms.

Costs related to a serious illness

Do you have a serious illness? Your hospitalisation insurance covers many of your treatments and medication. Be sure to inform us of your condition so we can assist you.

Submitting outpatient expenses: 5 steps

1: Collect your receipts and proof of expenses

Medical certificate (official receipt): You receive this document from your doctor, physiotherapist or dentist after your appointment. You must submit this to your health insurance fund.

Certificate (receipt) from your health insurance fund: You can request this document from your health insurance fund. It shows how much of your total expenses your health insurance fund has already reimbursed.

Prescriptions from your doctor: Applicable for purchases such as prescription glasses, contact lenses or medication.

BVAC certificate: This is the standard certificate you receive from your pharmacist when buying medication.

Open the Vanbreda App

The quickest way to submit your expenses is online. The app and the web portal give you easy access to your personal Vanbreda environment.

You can submit your pharmacy expenses directly at the pharmacy using your digital AssurPharma card.

Submit your costs

Take a clear picture of your receipts or proof of payment and upload them directly to your online account. (Tip: always take one photo per page and make sure all details are clearly legible. Take a separate photo of each BVAC certificate.) Then fill in the requested details, confirm your submission, and you’re done!

Track your request online

Once you’ve submitted your claim, you will receive a confirmation. You can easily track the status of your request via the app or web portal. We’ll notify you of any status updates by email or in the app.

Get your reimbursement

In most cases, your reimbursement is paid into your account within five working days. If we need further info regarding your request, we’ll contact you directly.
