How to get reimbursed for orthodontic treatment
Have you started orthodontic treatment? On this page, you’ll find out how to get part of the costs reimbursed and which steps you need to take.
Step-by-step guide: requesting reimbursement for orthodontic treatment
1. Your visit to the orthodontist
When you visit your orthodontist, always ask for proof of payment in the form of an invoice or statement of fees with full details of the treatment. Your orthodontist will send the corresponding electronic certificate (eAttest) directly to your health insurance fund.
2. Request reimbursement from your health insurance fund
Ask your health insurance fund for a reimbursement statement including:
The statutory contribution
The supplementary contribution (the additional reimbursement that varies by health insurance fund)
3. Submit your request for reimbursement to Vanbreda Health Care
File your request for reimbursement via the Vanbreda App or the web portal. Make sure to attach the invoice from your orthodontist and the reimbursement statement from your health insurance fund (including both statutory and supplementary contributions). If you have additional dental insurance that provides extra reimbursement, then please include their reimbursement statement as well.
4. Receive your reimbursement
We’ll process the documents you’ve submitted and transfer your reimbursement to your bank account. You can follow the processing status of your claim live in the Vanbreda App or on the web portal.
Who covers (part of) your orthodontic costs?
Your health insurance fund, through a statutory contribution and sometimes a supplementary contribution. (Every health insurance fund provides additional reimbursement for minors.)
Vanbreda Health Care’s supplementary outpatient plan.
Your additional dental insurance, if you have one.
Which orthodontic costs does Vanbreda Health reimburse?
Reimbursement of orthodontic expenses depends on the terms of your insurance policy. You can easily request your policy terms and conditions via the Vanbreda App or on the web portal.
How do we calculate reimbursement for your orthodontic costs?
Once you have submitted all documents proving the costs of your orthodontic treatment, we’ll calculate the amount of your reimbursement. We take into account the statutory and supplementary reimbursements from your health insurance fund. Here’s a brief overview of the calculation for your reimbursement:
The amount you’ve paid to the orthodontist is the basis for our calculation.
We then deduct the statutory contribution from your health insurance fund for every treatment.
We calculate the amount you are entitled to under the terms of your insurance policy.
We deduct any reimbursements already paid (for example through a supplementary cover or additional insurance policy).
We pay out the remaining amount, based on your policy terms.
Your personal contribution (copay) is any outstanding balance that remains after all reimbursements have been made.
