Physiotherapist visits
Do you need physiotherapy treatment following a hospital stay? On this page, you’ll find out how to easily submit your expenses for fast administrative processing and reimbursement of costs covered by your insurance policy.
Which costs do we reimburse?
Is your physiotherapy consultation directly related to an already approved hospital admission [LINK] and does it take place during the pre- or post-hospitalisation period? If so, your physiotherapy sessions are covered by Vanbreda Health Care. You’re also covered if the consultation is part of an approved serious illness case. Outpatient treatment is covered only if you’re enrolled in the outpatient plan. Reimbursements depend on your individual policy terms and your personal contribution (copay).
Good to know
Physiotherapy sessions can be reimbursed only if they have been prescribed by your doctor. This is a requirement for reimbursement by Vanbreda Health Care and also for receiving statutory reimbursement from your health insurance fund.
Please note: osteopathy will not be reimbursed. Osteopathy is not included in the official list of medical procedures (nomenclature) and does not qualify for statutory reimbursement from your health insurance fund. Do you have supplementary insurance? Check your policy terms to see if you may be eligible for reimbursement of osteopathy expenses through your additional coverage.
Which documents do you need for reimbursement?
Physiotherapy treatment typically takes place over multiple sessions. In most cases, you’ll pay after each consultation, and your physiotherapist will provide you with the required proof of payment only after the full series of sessions has ended. You can usually request interim proof of payment if needed. Some physiotherapists have an agreement for direct payment through your health insurance fund. In that case, patients pay only their personal contribution (copay) and any supplements.
For physiotherapy reimbursement by Vanbreda Health Care, please submit one of the following documents:
The certificate issued by your physiotherapist
or
All individual certificates (receipts) from your health insurance fund, following their reimbursement.
Alternatively, you can submit your physiotherapist’s standard medical certificate to your health insurance fund. Once their reimbursement has been processed, you can submit your health insurance fund’s certificate via the Vanbreda App or web portal.
Checklist: what must be included on a medical certificate or receipt for reimbursement?
Dates of treatment or consultations (all dates of your physiotherapy sessions)
Patient’s name
Description of the treatment
The relevant medical procedure code (nomenclature number), which indicates the type of medical service performed
Amount charged for the sessions (both the cost per session and the total amount)
