Pre- and post-hospitalisation: support before and after your hospital stay
A hospital admission often involves additional expenses, both before and after your stay. Examples include an extra doctor’s visit, consultations with a specialist, medication, physiotherapy or additional household help. This is why most insurance policies provide supplementary cover for the pre- and post-treatment period of your hospitalisation. This means you can submit expenses related to your hospital stay that fall within the official pre- or post-treatment period for reimbursement. The exact duration of these periods is always stated in your policy terms.
When should you submit your expenses?
We can only process the additional expenses from your pre- or post-treatment period after we’ve processed your hospital bill. However, you don’t need to wait to submit your extra costs: you can submit them immediately and we’ll automatically add them to your file. Once we’ve received your hospital bill, we’ll process the additional expenses you’ve submitted.
Please note: it usually takes around two to three months before we receive your hospital bill from the hospital.
How to submit your expenses for reimbursement?
You can easily expenses for additional treatment and medication during your pre- and post-treatment period via the Vanbreda App or web portal. As a registered user, you can do this in just a few clicks. Don’t have an account yet? Create your personal account using itsme® or with your e-mail address. Through the web portal, non-registered users can also submit costs on behalf of someone else.
Which documents do you need for reimbursement?
After a consultation, your doctor or specialist will send the electronic certificate (eAttest) directly to your health insurance fund. This means that patients only pay their personal contribution (copay) and any supplements. To submit your expenses via the Vanbreda App or the web portal, ask your doctor for the proof of medical care (the so-called ‘bewijsstuk geneeskundige verzorging patiënt’ in Dutch). This certificate lists all costs in detail. Alternatively, you can also submit the reimbursement statement from your health insurance fund after they’ve reimbursed you.
Pharmacy expenses are reimbursed through your personal AssurPharma barcode. When you purchase prescription medication, your pharmacist will scan this code, which is always available in your Vanbreda App. That’s it – you don’t need to do anything else. All the necessary information is processed automatically by our team.
You can submit your outpatient hospital bill or invoices for lab tests and analyses directly via the Vanbreda App or the web portal.
